Interesting question. It might be possible but "stuff" inside the dor gets in the way like the door mirror adjuster mechanism. Ive never seen it done in this country, maybe its been done in germany though?

I'd be willing to try.... for one thing, I don't HAVE an internal mirror adjust! (damn bourgoisie and their internally adjustable mirrors grumble grumble)

Think the actual winder mechanism would need a complete overhaul for it to work though, not to mention the seals!

not to mention the fact you'd need custom shaped glass cutting!

I reckon it'd be possible. looking at the shape of the door there is certainly room to do it. but theres a number of problems, not least the fact you'd need glass making up but also you'd need to make a new door seal that went all the way around. now, can probably buy a roll of generic seal from a classic car restorers or somewhere like that.

Then just the problem of seeing if anything inside the door is going to get in the way. & if so, moving it.

This doesn't help, but...

VW did exactly this conversion on the Mk2 Golfs. Early ones had the piller, later ones had a single full length window.

I know this doesn't really help, but I just thought I'd mention it for anybody who's never noticed.

It'd be interesting to see how much they had to change between the two versions, paticularly to see whether they needed to change the winder mechanism at all. Perhaps there's a way using golf bits as a starting point. Trim the seals to fit, maybe use the door mirror, perhaps the golf glass could be cut down to fit?

Still, sounds a bit too conplicated for me. It would be cool though.

---edit---

Hmm, it'd also solve my problem of having quaterlight glass that doesn't match the rest of my windows.

perhaps the golf glass might fit exact? I've never paid much attention to the differences between golf/polo doors (apart from the bar not being on all golfs!) but last time i put the mk3 polo next to a mk2 golf, there wasn't so much difference, but that the golf was a very little higher and a very little wider (and a very little SHORTER!)

i thought the seal did go all the way round? I'm gonna have to double check now... the seal on the mid-bar is a separate thing isnt it?

it 'twere affordable, i might go for a such a mod in distant future.. that quarterlight is nice and retro and all, but for practical purposes it's a damn pain in the chuddies!

i was thinking the golfwindow may fit but i dont think it would be exact! also u could adapt the golf seals to fit the polo i would think! me mum drives a jetta which was an early one so has the smaller windows and the small quarter window! also with the jetta,on the early ones, the mirrors are in a different place! on our one, its right up to the bar in the middle, whereas on later ones i beleive the mirror was further back!
