Warning lights???

Post by robbieg »

Any of you got any ideas what could be causing these warning lights to come on???

Image

they seem to come on when ive been sat for a few minutes, when its warm.
its done it 3 times today and occasionally over the last few weeks.
the thing is when you turn engine off, and on they go out.
I am intending to get it in to dealer but as i know what will happen, the lights will not be on and they won't be able to find the fault although i will show them this pic.

The last time i saw this fault was when i had an airleak in the intake system. It would bring up another light though which was the tyre pressure warning light.

Open your engine bay and can you hear any air leaking sounds?

I'll have a listen tomorrow.

i also bought an alloy/tyre off ebay a couple of months ago, and since fitting that i get the tyre light come on when i get to 70mph on the dual carriageway or motorway.
A mate told me the sensor might be knackered on the wheel, and as its not original tyre, the fitter might have broke it.

He could be right but the sensor is actually part of the abs unit i think as it counts the rotations of the wheels and uses that to determine if the car has a flat or not. Obviously a flat would mean a smaller diameter of the wheel and tyre therefore more/less rotations (i can't remember which lol) so it will pop on the light.

Is there any damage to the alloy? not warped or anything is it? Also see if you can find the sensor, should be located near the wheel hub. It might have a loose connection or maybe it's obscurred by something. Just a thought there, i could be wrong.

Cheers Jay,

i will check it all out tomorrow.
The wheel is practically brand new, but i might put the original back on and put that in boot as spare for time being.
Its the same alloy as standard (Match) and same size tyre.

Not a problem mate, let me know how you get on. I'm quite interested in seeing what the problem could be as well.

I know the one on the right is the tyre related. Mine came on yesterday, all tyres were down 1 psi, so pumped them back up, then open glove box, press the set button and boom, symbol gone. :)

If you have changed the wheel, you have to press the set button again, so the car can recalibrate.

Not yet, will defo do tomorrow, rain and working in garden.
I'm always pressing the button in glove box.
I'm going to put the original alloy back on tomorrow and see how that goes.
Then I'll have better idea.

We should all go back to the grand old days where cars weren't run electronically. Less problems...

Looks like the new alloy you bought is the fault.

light not coming on at 70mph so obviously something wrong with tyre sensor,
BUT
the other 2 lights came on again twice today when sat for a few minutes.
Took another pic for the dealer and took car in and its now booked in for saturday to see what it could be.
One of the technicians came and looked at my pic on phone and said it could be the pump thats gone, and so it switches the ESP off.
