3.5mm aux in socket to connect usb

Post by dvd »

Hi
is it possible to get a lead that will allow me to connect a usb memory stick to the 3.5mm auxiliary in socket near the cigarette lighter and play music on the car's radio (RCD310)?

Any pointers as to where I can get one from will be appreciated.
All I found at the usual site is one to connect an i-pod to the aux in socket.
I only need to hook up a usb stick.

Cheers :)

Short and simple, no.

Aux socket is analogue, it will require a device with headphone out which manages the playing of tracks. USB is digital for passing data back and forward, the playing of tracks is managed by the head unit from a simple storage source.

hornmeister is correct. If you really need USB only solution would be to retrofit the MDI but this could easily be £100 - £200 in parts and labour if required.

The most cost-effective solution would probably be to sell the RCD 310 and replace it with an RCD 510. The latter adds a 6-CD Changer and 7" touchscreen but more importantly an SD Card reader which would allow you to copy your music onto a large capacity memory card and play that way (similar to USB).

do you not have the usb option in glovebox?

I have the MDI which came with 2 connecting sets, one for USB which i have 8gb USB stick plugged into, and one for piephone.

I have the RCD510 but since fitting it in the polo and having the USB option i dont use the SD card slot or the 6 discs option.
When i had it in my Mk6 Golf i didnt have the MDI option so used the SD card and 6 discs

No I do not have any sockets for connecting anything in the glove box, my model is a 2011 TSI Comfortline.
Perhaps a new radio or an i-player would be the best option then.

Thanks for the replies. :)
