New Polo Blue GT and creaky wing mirrors

Post by cep381 »

Hello,
Just joined the forum as I have a Blue GT and wanted to see how other owners are getting on. I quite like it, coming from a Golf Ed30 was a bit of a difference though...anyway I have noticed that both doors have developed a creak when you open them and I've narrowed the source to the wing mirrors. It seems the black plastic triangular trim is rubbing on the door frame somehow. I've checked and greased the hinges so I know it's not that. Just wondering whether this is an isolated problem or if anyone else has come across something similar?
Thanks,
Charlie.

maybe due to the heat, the reason i say this as was out in our mk5 Pirelli today and couldn't believe the creaking noise coming from the dash

Yes defo due to the heat, my drivers side wing mirror on my blue gt is doing the exactly same thing. It wasn't when in cooler conditions.

Thanks for that, I was hoping/thinking it was something to do with the heat. It's not like there's an easy or clean way to lubricate that area so I'll deal with it for now!

How are you getting on with your GT by the way? Happy with your choice?

Yes I am enjoying the drive hugely. Coming from a 2011 SE, 85bhp it is a nice jump up. Would of loved a GTI but I wanted better fuel consumption. I like the styling, not too boy racer or conservative, very understated.

I love the steering wheel and really getting into dsg being a manual driver all my life! Enjoying overriding with the paddles for that more sporty drive feel and so nice not physically having to use the clutch in slow moving traffic.

It is a nippy wee thing when you drive it well and can really surprise other people ( who drive up your tail end without a thought for stopping distance!) Since adding the tail pipes there is a very subtle but nicer lower sound coming from the exhaust when the turbo kicks in. Thinking about a custom respray on the wheels and callipers, nothing outlandish but will see.

It definitely has its quirks though, yes the brakes on mine are noisy most of the time( hoping this will wear in a bit more) and I agree with others who have mention in similar posts the set up could have been better. Not too keen on the sound when in 2 cylinder mode, it can sound a little fluttery/rough sometimes. Start stop..hmmm getting used to it now. Posted in another thread about a possible issue with the water coolant dash display.

All in all, yes i think it is a great wee car and hope VW will continue to improve the concept of providing fuel economy with performance, and perhaps give it more quality accessories with integration rather than naff looking bluetooth systems!

How about you?

I'm loving it! I find the power so much more useable more of the time compared to my previous Golf. It sounds boring but it does make sense for real world driving, having the economy as well as a bit of oomph is a blessing. Mine's a white, 3-door with a manual gearbox and I love the styling. Not the most daring of designs but that's what I like about VW's products - nothing looks like it has been driven through Halfords..... Everything is fairly simple, so I have little in the way of toys but it has got Alcantara and heated seats.

The hardest thing I've tried to do is match the quoted combined mpg figures but nearly got it today on a drive back from Bedfordshire. The average mpg rose to 57-58 for most of the journey doing a steady 70-75, so I'm confident it could do the magic 60mpg with a few more miles. The best thing is surprising other people who must see the bluemotion badge and make a judgement. Still not seen another one on the road yet which is also nice.

I also hope that VW continue to invest in the technology as it seems to make sense. A little more refinement and something to mask that slight nudge when going from two to four cylinders but no real complaints so far.

Just clocked 1000+ miles, MPG max is 58 and has increased over time. RNS315 + multi-function steering wheel options are disappointing, asked when we chose if the 315 would have the built in phone and they said yes, it doesn't and uses the standard whose audio quality is good but the screen is too small and unreadable (especially in the sun). The steering wheel option would have been left out if i knew how redundant it would become without the phone option on the 315. Love the acceleration and the fuel economy. Could do with a stay in 2 cylinder override, so i could experiment more with fuel economy. :D

Buy a mic for the RNS315 and activate it and you'll have the Bluetooth within the head unit and you can use the steering wheel, I'm sure the RNS315 has Bluetooth built in its just not activated.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing as well. It's totally baffling as to why VW would fit a headunit which has an integrated bluetooth module inside, integrates perfectly with the car and utilizes the steering wheel and MFD display functions, yet fit a crap after market system that sits on top of the dash and looks like it was installed by a car stereo company from 10 years ago ?

So glad I've just ripped the genuine bluetooth kit out of the wife's current Polo, which will be retrofitted into her new Blue GT when we pick it up this Saturday (yea.....about time !)
