I have had this error and a few more (media contains no files, media not functioning correctly) over he past week. I have no idea why only had he car a couple of weeks.

I'm using a genuine cable and an old iPod (can't remember what generation but is white with the clicker wheel and NO colour screen)

I have spent 5 minutes plugging and unplugging the iPod and eventually it recognises it and plays ok. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why it stops or starts working......weird!

Mine just doesn't like any new playlists or apples own playlists (recently added and recently purchased etc.) I can edit an old playlist that I created a while ago and it sees the media files in that. But if I create a new one it doesn't see anything.

The new cable hasn't changed a thing. Lucky that I have a buyer for my old 'solid' adaptor. I don't know what else to do then now. Is there any updates for It recently?

It's not that the advantages of the Lightning connector aren't great- because they are- it's the way they've gone about doing so. A wire only needs to be a wire. The clever bit should be in the phone or the accessory, not in the cable. The new Lightning connector has prevented the use of aftermarket generic cables. Generic USB adaptors can be dodgy if bought off ebay for 64p, but there's nothing wrong with the one that came with my Nokia, and it shouldn't cost me £20 for a bit of wire.
