SEL LOWER GRILL CHROME TRIM REMOVAL
SEL LOWER GRILL CHROME TRIM REMOVAL
I was wondering if anyone knows if the chrome trim on the lower sel grill can be taken out? Im thinking of getting the grills painted in gloss black.

No it can't mate. You can spray it though, but you can't remove it!

Re: SEL LOWER GRILL CHROME TRIM REMOVAL
just mask the shrome strip and paint the rest.. the reverse in the abve pick
for masking tape i would use the curve masking tape as it is alot more easier to use on bends and has a lot more give than standard masking tape.. can be bought from halfords. hope this helps!

Re: SEL LOWER GRILL CHROME TRIM REMOVAL
Just removed the chrome trim from the lower grill.
It's really tricky since if it's your first time doing it (like me) it's almost inevitable to break it right in the middle... I didnt even notice i broke it.
IF anyone (Your Risk lol) wants to do it, you have to start from the bottom. Use a round-safe butter knife OR that official pry thingy to start.
Start pressing CAREFULLY those clips in a certain way so as to unblock from the chrome sockets, pry all the plastic clips one by one till you make certain all the lower clips are unblocked or semi unblocked and when that happens pry out the bottom chrome trim patiently.
To maintain the space you have achieved and to prevent the chrome sockets going back in, use something soft between the chrome trim and the grill so as to remain the out, i used by accident some filters of those slim cigarettes i found in my yard's ashtray and they worked fine.
Keep on working on the sides and you will manage to remove it
BUT BE EXTRA CAREFULL NOT BREAKE THE CHROME TRIM IN THE MIDDLE. i broke it.. otherwise it's not that difficult, i had a harder time removing the red trims from the GTI grill, 2 certain upper sockets were a pain in ****** to unblock. Still my fingertips are sore...
I removed mine and wrapped it with 3m Gloss black vinyl.... not to bad and the break doesnt really so to unsuspicious eyes lol.
