Post by Dare »

Hi Guys! Im a newbie to this forum.
I hoping someone can help. Ive got a set of 16" on a mk4 16v and am dropping it quite low ( bout 60-70mm). Im gonna take out the lining but im not sure how much arch mods im gonna need or whether i need any at all? Cheers

welcome!

if you keep the circumference the same (195 x 40's probably) and they're no wider than 7 inches then you won't need arch work at 60mm. any more and I reckon it'll start to push it!

i think the newer mkiv's also had slightly rolled arches... anyone?

i got 16's on 45 profile tyres...... on a 60mm drop, and they scrubbed like a b***h........then the tyres got worn a little, now bald..... and i changed the bumpers so removed the plastic lining, and got it rolled a bit, but it was a s**t job.....and i still get a little bit of scrubbage every now and then......

How hard is it to fit collies yourself? and with rollin the arches is it a case of skimming off some of the inner arch. Does anyone know the process?
@merstham_phil is yours a 16v?

yes thats right newer polo mk4's had slightly rolled bubbled arches (like the mk5) and so no arch work is needed at -60mm, though not sure any further, i had to take my mud guard off from the inside of the back bumper, so the tires did not scrub!

no arch mods as of yet, have not even taken out lining, but doing that does not really change it that much anyways. anything below 60mm you will need arch mods for tho. :D Its all fun and games

-75mm drop m8 on 195 45 16's, no arch mods, except rear mud guard plate removed both sides, just incase of it catching on tyre

there shouldnt be too much difference, afterall the mk4 6n n mk5 6n2 have a very similiar chassis (if not the same, i think anyway)
i've had 2 in back before it slightly rubs going round a roundabout, but i wudnt advise having 2 people in back constantly :shock:

cheers mate for the compliments 8)

I had 195/45/16

And it only scrubbed at the back with 3 people in the back,

I then had a 90mm drop witht eh 16s and that scrubbed real bad!!

Its about £20 an arch to get em rolled so proob worth it.

I know i will have to get it done!
