Am I missing something?

I bought MTEC H7's and 501's so my car has nice lights.... But the full beam apparently are also H7's. Does this mean the only difference is the fact main beam are aimed higher?

In part I suppose that it's it. I would have thought that the shape of the different reflectors will change the spread of the light as well.

Your partly right... The difference is the angles in the reflective surfaces in the main and high beam dishes.
