Hey!

So when I first got my polo I noticed it had a few stone chips possible signs of starting to rust. These things are tiny. So I cleaned them out. Painted them. Waxed it etc.

Anyway.... Was cleaning him earlier this morning and saw something that made tears come out if my eye balls. A rust spot. It looks dark orange compared to the original one (it's in a different place) which was light orange.

Now it's still tiny so you can't notice until you go up close BUT do you think a garage would think I'm a complete moron for wanting a fresh respray so I can start my car from scratch?

I don't know what to do lol.

Any advice?

My polo had rust under the bonnet I do wonder if they are poorly rust treated

Are you sure this is rust, as to the best of my knowledge, all VW's have galvanised bonnets and wings.

If it's a orange circular patch, it could well be atmospheric iron oxide fall out attaching itself to the paint. White and light coloured cars show this more effectively. A good spray with something like Iron-X will turn the iron ferrite into a purple liquid which will just wipe or spray off.

Might be worth a try if you are not 100% sure it's actual rust ?

I had large orange spots that wouldn't shift, even with a strong prewash, I tried iron-x on it and that shifted it, it did look like a rust spot though. I use I-X on my wheels all the time, best thing for them tbh. That and tardis!

Same thing happen on my last car which was white. If there is no cracking or flaking then most prob industrial fallout. Tree sap helps to 'seal' all that in and through spring-summer can be such a nightmare on light coloured cars. Nothing removed them other than iron x, followed by zaino clay and dodojuice born slippy which sorted it completely, polish then invest in good wax or sealant after that and more than one coat. That will really clean and protect you paint. Watch iron x on your wheels... it can dull/degrade callipers and exposed hub/drum if they are not painted... only get on actual wheels.

It's definitely rust :(:( The chips are from before I owned it.

Is rust a bigger problem than paint?

Ie if I get the bonnet resprayed etc with the rust still be underneath the paint and then burst up through the new paint again? Or are resprays practically like just getting it out of the showroom again.
