Hello
Does anyone know of a way to reduce turbo lag on a 1.2 TSI?
I often find I can stamp on the throttle and find it takes a few seconds for the turbo to spool.
It is due a service very soon which I am hoping will solve it.
I am also thinking of a remap if anyone has done this..
If so, was it worth it?
Let me know!
Thanks

Re: How to reduce turbo lag - Help!
wouldn't imagine there would have been lots with the size of that turbo. Plus I'm certain it cuts in around 1500-2000 revs so should spoil pretty promptly., not noticed any lag in mine. I'd mention it when you go into VW if it's that bad
If you look on some skoda forums there's a few 1.2tsi that have been mapped and ended up around 135 bhp, so would be well worth it! Although some have said they come out of the factory with more than 105 as standard...

Yeah when I got it from VW it would spool up at 1500-1800 revs, but now it feels abit worn out and will take a while to spool up, normally now around 2000-2200 revs.
Been looking about remap and found some for £200 so might put on my christmas list.
Also planning on dump valve & performance air filter.

Should be good, there's a dump valve for sale on here somewhere!

What circumstances are you experiencing the lag? The 1.2 TSI is normally pretty nippy in my experience. Its a bit lethargic in 1st gear as the performance is limited but in all other gears it feels urgent enough.

I find 1st gear a little short and snappy but get no noticeable lag, 2nd gear is very satisfying, I still can't believe its a 1.2! I'd have a word with the dealership although in my experience that leads to more questions than answers.

Hello!
Welcome to the forums firstly!
Now for the turbo lag, it's normal for the turbo to not spoil in till after 2000rpm(ish) in 1st gear. I asked a vw engineer about this and it's to do with helping the car stay under that low c02 emissions. You'll notice quite abit of lag (i.e. no power except the bare 1.2 engine power) until after 2000rpm in which full boost will kick in and send you on your way.
I have had my 1.2 tsi remapped at big fish tuning (highly recommended) and I now have more power in the mid and higher range. Feels like the power just keeps on coming and coming after 5k rpm. I had my RR'd at a local roller and it put down around 137bhp and about 220 torque.
And I do still have the dump valve, sat at home not being used if you're interested? I have a buyer who wants it and trying to arrange pickup but if that falls through you're more than welcome to have it.
Thanks
Jay

Has yours had the spacer fitted to the turbo actuator shaft? I took mine in for a service around 18 months ago and they carried out some work on the turbo which involved fitting a 2mm spacer and installing a newer software.
Never had any major turbo lag on mine though if I'm honest, always shocked that it's a 1.2 when I stick my boot down in 2nd

I am not entirely sure.
All i know is it felt a tad quicker and sharper when i got it in May this year, now feels abit knackered and tired.
