Removing boot handle and lock

Post by shantybeater »

Had a look for a DIY but had no luck, can anyone direct me through how to remove the boot handle and switch over the actual barrel? What's really frustrating is I did this about seven years ago but can't for the life of me remember how I did it!!!

It's on that guide I sent you the other day matey

The Haynes Manual covers it in fair detail too.

Yeah I tried using the Haynes mate but couldn't find a way of getting the barrel separate from the handle, plus I couldn't get the handle out of the boot!!

Barely is held in by a clip you can't get to easily. It has to be done with a pair of long nose pliers

Removing the handle isn't easy. It's three bolts on the inside. Barrel has to be out first too

Ahh that's the one at the base of the barrel? Wasn't it you who helped me with it seven years back? I distinctly remember being sat in the kitchen with a broken barrel in pieces haha!

Also whilst I have you, how do I reach the power connector for the third brake light on a GTi boot lid?

It was me lol. Yes that on. It's a u shape. Brass colour

You have to remove the spoiler. It's where the normal brake light goes
