Re: running at 70 degrees
Are the rad pipes cool when running?
The temp sender may have gone as they can fail without any errors, though it's possibly the stat

Re: running at 70 degrees
i've replaced that sodding thing once! granted it was a few years back. i've not checked the pipes but i never get over 70 degrees.

Re: running at 70 degrees
Only use a genuine vw thermostat - the Gsf ones are absolute rubbish. I'll get a part number tomorrow.
Re: running at 70 degrees
cheers mate, i'm after the sender first as it's cheaper. is it the green one with the horse shoe clip, that's on the right on the engine block?alexperkins wrote:Only use a genuine vw thermostat - the Gsf ones are absolute rubbish. I'll get a part number tomorrow.

Re: running at 70 degrees
Correct. Again only use a genuine part. Copy parts are truly rubbish.
Re: running at 70 degrees
Is there any way i can work out if it's the stat? i see you mention the rad pipes - if they're cool that would indicate the stat wouldnt it?
i'd sooner not be replacing things that are working ok.
P.S. Heater is blowing hot air

Re: running at 70 degrees
Checked the rad pipes - top is hotter than bottom after short drive, both are warm.
The car shows 90 degrees if left standing but as you drive the temp falls to 70. Looks nailed on stat to me

That's the stat alright.
Re: running at 70 degrees
Alex, is it likely that the housing could be damaged? i keep reading about the little plastic bridge in the elbow of the housing being broken on other 6n's??

Re: running at 70 degrees
The 6n2 uses a cartridge style thermostat therefore the housing is very different. It's likely the stat has simply failed.
Re: running at 70 degrees
ah i see, thanks for your help
Is this the correct stat?

Re: running at 70 degrees
Correct - part number is 032121110C only £20+vat from VW to be fair - get one from your dealer. Genuine is always better
Re: running at 70 degrees
I've got the dealer one and some G13 for when I spill it all changing it haha
