Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 1.2 TDI BlueMotion and recently the crankshaft position sensor gave up the ghost, was originally quoted £218 to have it replaced including fitting but after leaving my car with the dealer they phoned me and informed me that the gearbox has to come off to change the sensor and the price suddenly jumped to £545!
The car is 3 years and 3 months old and has 79,000 miles on it.
The dealer have said that they are going to check with VW to see if they will help out but I am not very hopeful.
The car was purchased from a second hand car dealer but has always been serviced by VW (down in England, i'm in Scotland)
Think I am being taken for a ride?

Re: G28 Speed Sensor
The problem is, your over the 3 year mark and 60000 miles. If the car was under mileage and just over 3 years, vw would be more flexible
I would however take it to a vw garage directly rather than a third party dealer. You'll likely get a better result.
I do agree though that this sneaks shouldn't fail this soon.

It's at Barnetts in Dundee, this is the only VW dealer in Dundee and its also listed on VW's own website as a "retailer"
I will be taking it to an independent specialist if VW doesn't offer anything towards it. It surprises me that they didn't know that removing the gearbox would be required when they originally quoted me for the fitting.

Well it's official, VW are refusing to contribute anything towards the repair.
Spoke to the VW specialists in Dundee and they reckon 2 hours labour max! Guess where car will be going on Thursday! Time to tell VW what I think of them on their Facebook page me thinks!
