MOT Questions?

Post by aaronon »

Hey guys,

I have my MOT next Saturday and am scared. I have tinted fogs (which aren't actually wired up) and I have pressed plates.

Has anyone passed an MOT with either of these ?

Thanks for any help :)

My pressed plates were from ebay and said road legal but I'm still wary!

Correct me if im wrong but front fogs arn't part of a mot test.
As for the plates just swap them to normal ones for the day?

I've been through two MOTs now with pressed plates at different garages, not a peep about the plates.

As long as they've got the BSAU45D code and makers address blah blah all should be fine.

Oh oh that's great news. . .ill look on mine and see if they have that code then I should be fine!

I can't take them off as there are those sticky pads all over my number plate part and I'd have no room for any more and can't get the old ones off lol

front fogs arent essentials...

But...that raises the question of whetherthey have to be working if you have them?

I doubt it, the rear one is a requirement though.

According to a quick google it seems that front fogs aren't part of the test.

I've been given advisories that a front fog lens was badly cracked with a couple of pieces missing, but I think that's part of the 'pointy sharp things on the cars exterior' check more than foglight operation.

Yes that's what I was worried about. . .if you have front fogs maybe they have to be working. But I don't think they're part of the test, I'll just say they're after market and I haven't got them wired up yet.

I'm going to look on my plates for that code mentioned above and that will put my mind at ease! I'll post here either way just in case folk need a definite answer as to whether I fail or pass as I know owners of first edition polo 6r's will be approaching mot.

I would think that front fogs if fitted and working would need to be safe, ie not able to dazzle oncoming motorists.

If they are there for show only and not working as they are not an essential for the test you should be OK. Not an expert, just thinking about it rationally. Tell the tester beforehand that they are for show and don't work if in doubt.

Hey everyone,

Front fogs weren't even checked. Only the rear.

Number plates weren't even mentioned.

All good :):)
