Oil breather problem...

Post by PoVWlo »

Hello. I've been researching a problem I'm having with my polo 6n2.
I had a bmc fitted a couple of years ago and ran the rocker breather to a plastic bottle for a while with no problems. But I fitted a catch tank a few weeks ago and now it spits oil out of the rocker breather and fills the catch tank in no time!

I run the crankcase breather to atmosphere. I thought the breather box on the crankcase may of been blocked so I replaced that and still no joy. Gave her a good thrash tonight to clear any build up of condensation etc and the tank is half full after 30 miles.

It's done 79950 miles with FSH.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Luke

Hi Luke

Was just about to reply to your pm, but I'll put it here for the future

The rocker breather is a one way breather. It is only supposed to allow air in - it is fitted with a one way valve when the factory airbox is in place

If you do not have a one way valve on this hose, it will affect the oil pressure and oil will pump out like no tomorrow

I suggest you fit a one way valve allowing air into the engine via this hose as soon as possible

Cheers

Ahh thank you!
Air should be allowed in to it? I'd of thought the only air inlet is the throttle body.
I have this pipe plumbed into a catch can at the minute, so if I put a one way valve on it where am I best putting the hose? Back into the tank?

This is what I had on while I sorted a catch can, had no trouble with this. Only with the catch can the issue began.

You need to get rid of the catch can and just have a one way valve fitted directly onto the hose mate

Yep the hose has a one way valve allowing air in one end and is connected to the rocker cover on the other

Right this is my setup now.

Valve fitted so it allows air through it but doesn't allow out. Hopefully problem solved!

Cheers mate!

So if no air can come out of the rocker, is the only breather the crankcase breather?

Ahh right, was wondering whether that was so. Am I better plugging my crankcase breather into my air intake like an original is?
