Hi new to the Polo fold and can't remove glovebox

Post by Roundsquare »

Hi guys thought I would introduce myself as I've been lurking for a while.
The polo is my daughters first car. I think she chose it after seeing the quality of my old Mk6 Golf :D

Its a 1.2 S 3 door white. So being pretty basic I want to retro fit some things to it.

I've currently got the MDI kit and a DAB RCD510 (she presently has the RCD210). I've wired it all up loosely and it works fine. However I 've tried to remove the Glovebox to fit the MDI in its proper place and can't get the Glovebox out at all.
I've removed all the screws and the side panel as in the picture below (hopefully) but there is something at the the top left of the glovebox that is holding it in. So I can't move on. I've removed the spring type of clip you can see half way down the arc thinking that would release it but no joy. It appears to be the wee bit of metal next to that that is stopping it.
Anyone got a walk through or know whats stopping it?

I'm also looking to add rear speakers. Does anyone know if the wires are already there?
Possibly the stalk that has all the trip information.
Remote central locking.
I've already activated the locking doors after moving off with VAG.Com

Cheers guys. Any info at all would be great.

I know its bad to reply to your own thread but done some more digging and found this although nothing is said about the part that is sticking on mine which is disappointing

There are

2 screws under the glovebox.

3 screws in the top when you open the glovebox

and 2 in the back inside it.

And the just pop out the big clip you can see in the picture closest to the glovwbox lid and it's free.

Then you just unplug the airbag switch and tirepresure sensor if yhou have those and if you have climetronic you need to pull of the hose connected to the box to.
These things are done while you pull it out of the dash.

Thanks I've tried all that as its pretty straight forward but its definitely held by something else.

Right beside the clip on the picture you need to pry it over this "pipe thingy" I have marked here.

Thanks.

Yes that is definitely the bit that is stuck. It looks like the Glovebox has a pipe attachment on it that goes through a hole with a strange metal clip on top of it.
I'm off tomorrow so weather permitting I'll get a few pictures done and hopefully do a "How to" for anyone else struggling.

Cheers.

The part you circled is a metal clip that appears to do nothing.
Anyway i pulled the clip out and the tube part from the glovebox that goes through the hole looks as if it is actually wider than the hole itself!!

After a lot of side to side and back to front motions I was able to slide the pipe out of the hole which freed the glovebox :D

The metal pin looks like it is designed to slit the end of the pipe to make it harder for the end to slip out the hole.

I'm going to make a How To for fitting MDI and this will include the Glovebox out.

Thanks for your help.
