It is rubber/plastic that looks like felt. Real felt is something else more organic!

Anyway, that green algae will grow on anything!

The point is, that "area of your car" is staying wet most of the time, and that means algae will start to grow in it.

I'm constantly surprised that people store a £10,000 car out side and their worthless junk in a garage.

In my road there a 10 houses with garages, I am the only person that actually uses mine to store a car.

For what you save in time defrosting in the morning, insurance and less maintenance surely it's worth renting a storage unit if you can't chuck the stuff away?

You make a valid point. But it's not worthless junk I'm storing in the garage. It's mainly tools and things that you would need at a moments notice. Having stuff stored away from home can be tricky

No disrespect intended and obviously circumstances need to be considered.

Speaking from experience, my next door neighbour has old furniture, old clothes and a broken fridge freezer in her garage.
Her 13 plate Kia already has 2 dents and 6 scratches on it from being parked in the street. My 13 plate Polo is immaculate, her car looks decidedly secondhand already.
Another neighbour parks in front of his house yet they have an empty garage and a driveway around the side, 15 seconds walk from the front door,
Street parking when you have the option of off street/garaged just doesn't make sense to me, when you invest thousands in a car.

With respect to the algea/mould try some antibacterial wipes. They certainly clear the mould that forms around doubleglazing due to condensation.

You need to go out and purchase a Dettol Mould & Mildew Remover!
Pre-wet the area with water and then spray on Dettol, leave it to soak in for half hour or the longer the better, come back with a tooth brush and some water, spray some water and start scrubbing backwards and forwards, take your time while doing it and then take the car to a wash to get any excess off the rubbers and it's gone!

Bit of APC (All Purpose Cleaner) and a detailing brush would sort that out in a heartbeat. I use the Meguiars stuff and it's perfect for shifting this sort of stuff diluted 2:1

I bought low mileage 2012 Polo from my local VW dealer last week and it had the same thing.

I just opened the window and cleaned it off....no big deal. It came off easily. I'd rather not have the dealer pulling the doors apart just for this.

Maybe a bit of moss killer applied on the cloth will stop it returning. I used bathroom cleaner.
