Limp Mode - Polo GTI

Post by benhowarth6 »

I have a 2013 Polo GTI which has done just over 8000 miles, yesterday I was driving onto a national speed limit road so I put my foot down (car was warmed up fully around 93 degrees). The car then lost all power and wouldn't rev above 5000 rpm. I didn't get any lights on the dash or anything like that so I pulled over and turned the car off and back on then everything seemed okay. This morning I plugged in my VCDS cable and checked for faults and got the following:

Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong? Guessing its something to do with the turbo/wastegate?

Cheers
Ben

Being a complete novice:

Overboost. Not chipped is it? if not then suggest an issue with the sensor the control or the turbo itself. Might be worth a trip to the dealer to check it out.

I have on occasion (where the situation allows) floored mine with no similar issue.

The boost presure from the Turbo got to high so the computer cut the power to save the engine...

Nope completely stock, I've never had this issue before while driving it a bit harder...

Is this an issue that needs to be looked at by the dealer then do you think or is it just a one off?

If it's still under waranty I would talk to them and hear what they think about it and have them put a tester on the car.
Then at least it will be in the files if there is an issue later on that you have made them aware of the problem as early as possible. :)

I allways check with VW as soon as I think my BlueGT isn't behaving like it should. Just for peace of mind.

You should too with your GTI. The engine in that is one of the most problematic VW have ever made...

Genuine cable is by Ross Tech for like £300
Knock-offs £40 (cant update them though)

Both work and come with an installation CD

Install CD onto laptop

Plug it into the car just above where your right shin is (driver side) its a purple plug

Auto scan/full scan

So it happened to my 2013 GTI this afternoon. 3000rpm, loss of power down to 2000. Leave it a second and you can take it up to 3000 again, but no more. Got off the motorwasy quick. Left it for a couple of hours then it was fine.

Think I'll be checking it in on Tuesday morning. :|

Sticking wastegate or boost pressure regulator?

Hopefully a one off (my van did it a few months ago, turned ignition off then on again all was fine, never recurred) drive the car normally, If it happens again l would take it in to the dealer.

Probably the same issue I had with the waste gate, if your anywhere near Leeds I don't mind you using my VCDS cable to check for the fault codes?

Thanks for the offer but I'm London based. Get a nosebleed anywhere north of Watford :P . Think I'll keep an eye on it. If it happens again I'll take it to the dealer.

Happened again tonight. Booked into the dealers tomorrow. Not good on a car which hasn't covered 4000 miles yet.

Good job I dropped it off first thing. Also due a DSG recall which " Is a whole day job" apparently.
