Ticking when accelerating?

So I have a small problem, when I accelerate the car ticks? It's not a stone in the wheel because it doesn't do it when I'm coasting and it doesn't do it when it's stopped and you rev it, any ideas?

Is it a petrol engine you have in the car? If so, if you are using cheap fuel it could be pinking. Try using higher octane/detergent loaded fuel for a few tank fills, if that improves things it might be taht you need to use that kind of fuel until/if it cleans the combustion chambers a bit, ie gets rid of some of the carbon.

One other thing, if it is a petrol engine, which one - model type if possible, also is it "using" a lot of oil?
