Engine swap help

Post by KierranD »

I have a V reg 1.4CL polo on 120k miles and the sycros have started to go in the gearbox so I looked at getting a second hand one but don't really want to spend that money on just a gearbox so I have started looking at getting a hole engine with a gearbox.
I have found a 6n2 1.4 16v complete with gearbox and ECU for £350 that has done 54k miles but just wondering if it a straight swap and if you need to change the loom?
And how easy it would be to do and how many days work? I have my dad to help with it as I wouldn't be keen on doing it myself.
Thanks

6N > 6N2 engine is very different. 6N2s use a completely updated loom and are drive-by-wire as opposed to throttle cable. Not to mention a new instrument cluster, interior loom and many other changes

Its better to get the gearbox redone imo

What about getting a 6n 1.4 16v engine. Would that be easier?

Yes, but make sure its a late spec, as the later spec ones have a more updated instrument cluster and back end management

Then youll just need to replace the engine loom
