I've posted over at Porka the same thing, but I thought I might aswell post here aswell...
I've never seen a before and after for engine bays. I think it would be good to see how your engine bay has progressed aswell as the outside of your car. So, here's mine:
oo, shiney... where did you get the Boulevard lettering from?
(cant put mine up yet, all the difference you'd see is slightly less dirt, the hot air pipe going from brown to silver, and the plug leads from orange to black)
That sticker does look sweet though . I never took any pictures of mine before I fitted the braided hose covers, and its far from finished anyway, as I want a polished rocker cover and induction kit.
My rocker cover is completely original (ie never been re-painted.) I'm very surprised at the condition its in, as most of them seem to rust really badly and turn orange!
I think a decent rocker cover makes all the difference in an engine bay, as its the first thing you tend to look at. I might end up getting it chromed to make it look propper bling!
My rockers lasted quite well, but I might get one from a scrappy so my cars still useable, and get that polished... Mind you how much does chroming cost?
Might get some other bits and bobs polished and tidy it up in there. Might get some convoluted piping and paint it silver or something, just anything to break up the black.
mines a lovely shade of burnished burgundy... it seems to be rusting but in a very flat, smooth fashion! wierd eh. if it was a dark red car it'd fit right in.
how about having yours heat-resistant powdercoated white, karl?
does any1 no of a company who wood polish the rocker cover? or as Tahrey says powder coat it?
I got a new 1 from a scrappy cos mine had the usual rusted horrible look. The 1 i got was pretty tidy, & seemed to be coated in black paint of some sort. I tried to touch it up using some engine paint (high temp stuff) but it went all streaky so now looks crap.
be a bit different - remove the heat shielding over the exhaust manifold, and customise it, i.e. get rid of the big daft pipe that used to feed warm air to ya cold start valve, cover the hole and paint it all nice shinny black like your rocker cover (in UHT paint tho!)
The bolts holding my exhaust manifold shroud on were horribly rusty when I took it off this morning, but they still came off perfectly. Give it a drop of penetrating oil before you take them off, it'll be fine.
By the time I put my engine back in the bay, the bay will be shiney and white, the head and the exhaust shroud will be black, and everything will be as shiney as possible
