I'll start by saying I'm a complete novice when it comes to choosing oil, hence why I'm looking for advice.
I currently have a 08 Polo GTI with 26,000~ miles on the clock. I've always had it serviced by VW, although only every 12 months as I don't do that many miles in the car. When I do drive the Polo I only really do short 5 mile return trips most of the time.
I'm looking to get a bit more hands on and change the engine oil every 6 months, but I have no idea how to choose an oil. In combination with a new OEM oil filter from a VW dealership.
I can get the following Penrite oil locally so was hoping to use it;
http://store.forestlubricants.co.uk/pen ... plus-5w30/
Or are either of the following better suited?
http://store.forestlubricants.co.uk/penrite-hpr-5/

Are Penrite oils OK or should I be looking at the different brand etc?
Cheers,
Jensen.

Re: Help Choosing Engine Oil
Why not stick with what VAG had in mind, ie Castrol Edge or maybe Mobil 1 ? (5W-30)
I would not keep a car like that and routinely drive it on 5 mile journeys - you should replace the oil/filter every 6 months if you need to use it in that way.
I have an Audi S4 and I tend to avoid using it for short journeys, I use the bus - nasty/smelly but saves the car sitting in commuting traffic, 5 miles sounds like a job for a bike or bus, and play with the car at the weekend.
