Daytime Running Lights
Has anyone successfully changed their daytime running lights from the standard sidelights plus dipped headlights set-up to fog lights only?
Can this be done as a coding change or is modification to the wiring required?
If this can be done with standard VW parts, I would be willing to change the existing (factory fitted) fogs to the two bulb BM type and purchase any supplementary wiring required.

I would second this post.
My DRL's are my dipped & sides, would rather fog LED's.

Well, it must be possible on the 6R as while in Spain this summer, all of the polos out there had fog DRL's - They looked really good as of a result!

Daytime Running Lights
Yes. This would look so much nicer!!
Re: Daytime Running Lights
All the blue motion polos have them as standard mate. Not sure it's as simple as we would like it to be in order to make ours have fog DRLS. I wanted this for my GTI months ago but ended up buying the xenon drl headlamps instead. Would be interesting to see if anyone can figure out a solution
Re: Daytime Running Lights
I've been thinking the same , would look much better. Im going to cost up the light units tomorrow and see what coding can be changed.

Re: Daytime Running Lights
Good to hear that so many people are in agreement on this point.
I have always considered that the existing "full suite of lights" is a compromise solution unworthy of VW.
If Spanish market cars have this feature as standard as well as the BM, the parts/coding should be available via a dealer.
So, if any contributors work in a dealership, perhaps they would be willing to do a little research on everyone's behalf - for example, is a different light switch required?
Assuming the total cost is reasonable, I for one would be happy to obtain the parts from that dealership (and reward the researcher by way of beer tokens!).
Mattymdm - can you set the ball rolling by sharing the results of your enquiries please?

Re: Daytime Running Lights
So far i've found out that the light units retail at £61.61 each.
The one light unit comes with x2 2 pin connectors im assuming one will be for the fog light bulb and the other for the daytime running lamp. Need to look into the wiring im guessing its going to be a change of wiring loom to get this to work as im sure i only have one 2 pin connector going to my fog light units on my car at the moment.

Does anyone know which fuse relates to the daytime running lights?

Re: Daytime Running Lights
Sorry to raise this topic again, but this is the only niggle I have with my 1.2TSI.
I have recently found replacement fog lights with provision for DRL's, the bulb holders and a wiring loom on eBay. The item numbers are 190587865405 (€78), 190590635408 €30) and 201105129412 (€33).
Potentially therefore the job can be done at a total cost of about £120.
HZ Design have told me that these are the only parts required and that the wiring loom connects to pin 5 of T73A and pin 3 of T73B on the Central Electric Control Module (CECM). Can anyone identify these positions please?
Moving forward, as soon as I am able, I will remove one of my fog lights to see if the wiring for the second bulb holder is present - unless of course anyone else has already investigated this.
Does anyone with more technical knowledge than myself know whether my CECM (identified as part no 6R0 937 087 P20E) supports this modification?
How does it "know" the new lamps have been fitted? Does it require re-coding to suit the amended set-up?
Thank you in advance - I will of course keep everyone informed about progress.

Re: Daytime Running Lights
Your BCM does not support the DRL function.
The wiring no is present. You need this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-Polo-6R-ab-20 ... 2c60a80df7 not the one you said.
You can install daytime running lights on additional lamp of fog lamps in your POLO, but differently than they tell you.
You must remove the pin3 from the light switch connector.
You must isolate this pin3 completely.
Hook the new wiring in slot 3 of the light switch connector.
From slot 3 to fuse (15 Amp) and from the fuse to the lamps.
And of course ground.

Re: Daytime Running Lights
Thank you for your help ciclo.
That sounds a lot easier than accessing the BCM itself.
I will gather together the various parts over the coming weeks with the objective of competing the job in the warmer weather and will, of course keep everyone posted.

Re: Daytime Running Lights
For a clean installation you can put the fuse in the fuse box.
Check out in my topic, fuse box and the installation guide of the washer jets (images of the uninstalled fuse box).
