Stereo upgrade! RCD 310 to RNS 315

Post by gary390 »

Hi

I'm wanting to upgrade my RCD 310 to a RNS 315. Is it just a straight swap and sorted? I know I'll need to fit a gps antenna. What about the DAB feature? My RCD 310 doesn't have DAB so how would I get that working?

Any pointers would be a great help.

I performed a similar operation on my Mk6 Golf GTI a few years ago and it went surprisingly smoothly. No issues, just plugged it in and it worked first time.

Really simple swap out and is basically plug and play. You can code it if you have vcds but your not really going to get anymore functionality unless you have highline mfd like the GTI.

Just did it on my TSI with an RNS315 Dab +.

How would I get the DAB to work?! I would need a new antenna right?! Would the FM/AM still work as normal If I didn't have the dab aerial?

This kit will do it:

I have it installed in my Polo - Works great! But it requires the diversity antenna function in your car.....

Excellent thanks. If I wasn't to connect the dab aerial. Would I still receive the AM/FM signal and that feature still work?

Not quite sure what you mean?

Are we talking about just changing the antenna module or?
And if yes - why just do that??

I mean as in I fit the unit in as normal plug everything in, but just don't plug a dab antenna in.

It will fit nicely. But as earlier mentioned it requires that your car has the diversity antenna system.
Otherwise you will need one of these adapters on the RNS315

Ok - then it's only the GPS antenna you will have to fit (the top of the Glove compartment is a good place). The rest is Plug and Play then....

Is the glove compartment he best place to put it? I've seen a few people say that above the stereo behind the air vents is a good place. I'd also need to wire a microphone up so I can my phone with the bluetooth. What would be the best way to wire that up?

Normally the microphone will be placed inside the front interior and reading lamp.
And yes – the top of the glove compartment works very fine in my car…

Yeah, interesting about the antenna position, my RNS315's actually in the drivers side door pillar,, I.e above your head. It needs to be as close to the outside as possible IMO. Likewise, MIC is in the interior/reading lamp, I.e the place it's meant to be!?!
