I have a misfire on my Polo started last week but running has now improved. The codes i have taken with a Maxiscan showed
P0116/16500 Temp sender Implausible. Now got a replacement which i am going to fit.
P0300/16684 Misfire recognised
P0301/16685 Cyl 1 misfire -Check plugs and ign cables
P0304/16688 Cyl 4 "
P0342/16727 Camshaft sensor sender Signal low
The car starts ok no problem but misfires at approx 2k-3k on asceleration but worse when engine cold then improves as engine gets up to normal temp.
Today also noticed than temp guage goes up to between 70-100 but then wil drop and then go back to normal position.
Now plugs 1 and 4 run off one coil and 2 and 3 run off other coil on the DIS need to put metre to check ohms and compare good with bad.
Looking through the forum seems the Temp sensor controls more than temp but does that effect the cam sensor if thats defective and DIS ?
I have cleaned most of the revelant connections and IGN leads at the moment but need to check cam sensor.
Also i got red flashing on Tacho and blue flashing on speedo was so quick could not tell where or what warning lights was flashing plus only happened about every 60 secs or so then stops
I was wondering if i could erase the codes with no bad effect i do not want to have a car which will not start as i am living in a village out in the sticks, then when it starts i could check codes again to see if there are any different codes listed or do the codes erase themselves after a given time if code has been corrected.

Re: Engine misfire have codes
You can (and should) clear the codes and rescan before you do any further work. Some of the codes do clear after a certain period of running without problem, others do not

Re: Engine misfire have codes
Well that is sorted, after cleaning all connections to the thermostat/ht leads and DIS i have replaced the the cam sensor. Its been a week now and error codes have not returned it did misfire at first when i drove it for about 1/4 mile but think that was ECU sorting itself out and all is fine now.Glad i got that Maxiscan from Amazon it has saved myself a lot of hassel and cash.
