Windscreen Washers

Post by Kev63 »

Alright Chaps,

Yesterday I noticed the windscreen washer wasn't working on the front on way to work. Thought nothing of it until the drive home afterwards and still no luck. I let the car warm up in case it was the cold weather but no luck.

I've since tried the rear washer and not doesn't work either! One thing I've also noticed is that I can no longer hear the motor spinning round when I try to use them so I think the motor must be dead, and nothing is frozen.

Question is, I've got a 63 plate so it's still in warranty. Will warranty fix this? I don't want to ring VW and for them to ask me to take a look then charge me, as if it's not under wearranty a local garage will most likely be cheaper!

Bit strange this has 'broke' as I've had older cars in the past without this problem. If it helps, my driver door electric window was stuck in the down position the other day when driving, switch wouldn't allow it to come up. When i exited the car though, keeping hold of the lock button worked and shut it. Ever since it's worked fine... strange! This was the same day as the washer not working aswell.

Yes - the warranty covers all components, so just take it into your local dealer.

I would add, on the proviso that you haven't previously let everything freeze up due to not having sufficient screen wash in the system to prevent freezing. Expanding ice kills washer pumps.

I just rang up and explained. Basically said front and back not working, is it under warranty. They said yes. They asked if its both, i said yes. I said it doesn't even make the whirling noise and it might of froze up due to weather and they said don't worry it should of defrosted over time and as it's still not working, we will have a look and fix as its under warranty.

Downside is the closest appointment they had was 2 weeks tomorrow so a long time to go without screen wash but hopefully not an issue.

Nice one.

Thanks mate - called them and looks like they are going to cover it free of charge.
