Stop & Start very fussy
I am finding the S&S to be very fussy about when to kick in or not. The BGT's 2-cylinder mode kicks in as soon as the engine gets warm, but you only need the smallest draw on the battery (headlights and/or 1 heated seat on low setting and/or A/C) for the S&S to refuse to work. I sometimes switch everything off and it still only works 50% of the time.
Does anyone else find this?

Yes 100% do you have the ECC option? I have been to VW about this and they seem to have no real reason, other than telling me all parameters must be met.. I think personally the system is far to selective on things to monitor. For example a common one is 'the windscreen may be come fogged' and this will cause the S/S to not kick in. Now for me, I feel the windscreen could become fogged at any time, I don't feel the need for it to have to monitor that.. I wonder if this can be altered via VCDS.
In contradiction to this, I had a Polo SE courtesy car a few weeks ago with manual AC and the S/S kicked in every single time, no fussy control parameters.. So I am assuming it is the ECC option.

Now that you mention it, I think I did see somewhere on here that the minimum required voltage to the battery can be tweaked to allow S&S to kick in more often, or not at all as the case may be.CrypticG wrote:I wonder if this can be altered via VCDS.

I have had the exact same problem the whole time I have owned my car. It's just really sensitive in these cars it seems. As for the voltage tweak. I was able to disable start stop that way, but nothing made it come on more quickly.
Tbh I am very sceptical it saves much fuel. Think it has more to do with getting the ridiculous mpg claims they make

There is around 25 parameters (I don't know what they are) that need to be met for the S&S to be able to work.
Especially in the winter time don't be alarmed if it doesn't work as much as it will when the temperature outside is higher.

Worth pointing out my DTUK box made it even more resistant to coming on. Probably due to the small draw on t battery

That's probably because a box tuning only changes a few things like boost to get more power, where an OBD/chip tuning changes all of the ecu properties to work together which is also much healthier for the car.rsmagee wrote:Worth pointing out my DTUK box made it even more resistant to coming on. This seems strange as when I had an Audi A1 for a month as a courtesy car, the stop start always worked even with heating on etc! lovely car to drive to mind, I could have got one for £800 more, but they give you only £200 towards the deposit!
Anyways, I thought they would have used the same systems based on the same engines etc....

The Climatronic turns down the fan speed to save power when S&S shots off the engine. The parameters just have to be met, And the computer decides that. And if they aren't:

Just seems a lot of parameters for it to work.
As I said I never had an issue on the A1, so unless it's do with how the polo is powered etc
