Mines worked beautifully since I've had it but I've replaced all the bulbs for LED so the voltage draw may be less...

Has nothing to do with your bulbs. The difference in volt usage is so minimal it's almost non existent.

Do you have climate control or a/c Frog? I just have standard A/C and I can use that up to setting 3 before it won't let me use start/stop. Compared to my old golf, which used any excuse not to use s/s, I find the BGT wants to use it all the time.

Yes, the BGT comes with climate control as standard in France. I have just about given up on the S&S, TBH: since I installed the tuning box, it never comes on :(

Lucky, we don't get climate control as standard in the uk just A/C though the s/s works better with standard a/c.

Think you are all making comments about how the S&S decides to Stop. What do you think when is Starts, on my 2013 BGT DSG, it can on level ground, lurch into action not as smooth as I would expect or want it to be.

Other thoughts?

That's because of the DSG... It's in gear when S&S is engaged... It's not in a manual Polo.

I would hope it is not exactly in gear as such, maybe neutral or the clutch is not engaged, and the ECU and DSG will have to figure between them when the revs are right, the clutch is engaged and the brakes are released.
