Performacnce mods on a 1.4 16v

Post by Haydenvwslater »

Hi guys, i have a 1.4 16v 75 bhp model 6n2 in the line that i will be diffenatly buying as my 1.4 8v has just been scrapped, what i want to know is what are the best performance mods to on this engine, as my girlfriend owns a 6n2 gti with lots of mods and its fast and id like something similair, i have been told to do the throttle bodies, gti inlet manifold, blank the egr valve, straight through custom exhaust, and a jk automotive said they can remap it for £200 and with all of this done it should sit at around 150 bhp, is this correct? Is there also any other performance mods i can do to boost performance? Also does anyone know if it does have all this work what it would go like? As id like it have a bit of power to it?
Would apretiate any help, thanks.

150 is quite optimistic for the 75bhp 16v. If you had the 100bhp 16v i would perhaps be inclined to agree, but thats a very different engine with a different block.

If you want performance of a GTI, given the cost of them now, I would just buy a GTI. MOT's are getting very tight now on mods like this, and take into account the fact you would have to notify your insurance as thats double the output, the GTI probably isnt that far out of reach.

I agree with Alex, as soon as you start doing engine mods, you have to disclose them to your insurance company and prob would increase your premium up to what a Gti would cost.

I have the 6N2 1.4 16v 100BHP model. The only things I've done is BMC induction kit, full long life custom hidden exhaust (stainless steel) and a remap. Also lowered suspension kit, front strut brace.

I have no idea how much better the performance is compared to standard as I've never done a rolling road.

Alex has been in and driven my car and maybe he can tell you what the difference is compared to the Gti version.

Your one is the 75bhp one and even with doing all the mods, I don't think it would get anywhere near 150bhp. Maybe if you had a shot of NOS it would With all the mods you had listed.
