Hi all, new to the forum. Not sure I'm in the right place as I'm unsure which mark polo I have but its y reg 2001 1.4 match, the model before the round headlights. So my son bought this and it's becoming difficult to engage gears and crunches in reverse. The bite point is at the floor, almost starts to pull away when the clutch is right down. I don't think its the gearbox as it engages all gears fine when the engine is off, and gears slip in ok at the right revs etc. could this just be down to adjusting the clutch? I'm pretty sure this model is cable and not hydraulic, and if so is it a fairly straight forward fix? I've worked on all my cars when I can, and anything beyond me, I have a very good and very reasonable mechanic, thanks in advance!
No slip on clutch either I should mention, thanks

Re: Clutch adjustment?
It's a cable clutch and is very easy to adjust. Just undo the lock nut and tighten the nut beneath to move the bite higher. Tighter it is the higher it will be
Re: Clutch adjustment?
Thanks for the reply Alex, that's what I did and it seemed great, however shortly after things got worse and now the clutch is stuck down, pedal box I guess? Which was probably on it's way out, any advice would be appreciated, do vw fix these by any chance? Thanks

Re: Clutch adjustment?
Not necessarily pedal box
Check the movement on the clutch release arm and that the cable itself is attached and not broken
Should the pedal box be broken, a local independent garage is your best bet to get it fixed. The part itself is about £30. Labour is a few hours

Re: Clutch adjustment?
By forum terms you have a mk6 polo, and no its hydraulic and self adjusting.
