Re: New GTI
Hey guys, I was wondering what exactly is the rear suspension setup on the new Polo GTI.
I always thought it was a regular tortion beam common to many superminis but reading Evo's article about the Polo GTI now I'm curious about what they mean.

Isn't the MK7 Golf multilink at the back?We love the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the way it mixes practicality and refinement with a dynamically exploitable chassis. Its smaller brother, the Polo GTI, borrows some of the Golf’s DNA – including its rear suspension setup – so we’ve been expecting big things from the beefed-up supermini.
Re: New GTI
Is there any space under the boot floor, with the battery and spare wheel being in there?

Re: New GTI
I think Evo have got it wrong, I'm pretty sure the Polo GTI has a torsion beam rear setup.
Of course the lower power Mk7 Golfs have a torsion beam setup, it's only the GT, GTI, R etc. that have multi link.

Re: New GTI
That's taken from the original VW press release - public version of which is here.McPherson at the front, torsion beam at the rear. The Polo GTI's sports suspension ensures exceptionally agile and secure handling. The technical basis for this comes from a set-up with a McPherson-type front axle and a torsion beam axle for the rear wheels. The chassis of the GTI is 10 mm lower at the front and 15 mm lower at the rear compared with the less powerful Polo models. The chassis engineers succeeded in reducing roll to a minimum in the exceptionally agile and responsive Polo GTI. One of the factors responsible for this is the stronger anti-roll bar on the front axle. Replacing the 7J with 7½J wide 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/40 tyres also contributed to the improved handling. The vehicle's handling is further refined through the addition of a new, highly accurate electromechanical steering system which is exceptionally responsive.
There's nothing of the VW media site that suggests anything other than torsion beam. I think the Evo review is probably talking more about the tuning of the rear suspension, rather than the actual setup. Or, more likely, just repeating whatever the press were told at the launch event.

It's weird because they make references to it at least in two different occasions:blackertracker wrote:I think Evo have got it wrong, I'm pretty sure the Polo GTI has a torsion beam rear setup.

Re: New GTI
VW have made a couple of changes to the options on Polo GTI:
Standard free paint colour is now Black (non-metallic).
Flash Red is now a £330 option.
App-Connect is now available (adds Apple CarPlay & Android Auto to existing MirrorLink compatibility) at £100.
