OK, so I know there's a long thread regarding the oil consumption issues on the GTI 1.4 but I'm interested to see how much oil your car is actually consuming and how many of us have a GTI that's actually pretty good on oil consumption.
I've added 5 different options in the poll so please read and select your vote carefully.
Certainly original engine, I was using up to a litre per 600 miles. But since new engine I would say approx 200 ml (maybe a lot less) per 1000 miles. I think it is improving as mileage increases.
Forgot to say, it might be worth stating which engine you have - mine's a 2012 with the CAVE engine. I'm assuming you're will have the later engine skipster?

Mine is a 2010 Dave, but engine replaced end of 2012. The engine is still designated 'CAVE' but clearly with revised internals, so I am probably nearer to a CTHE spec.

I wish we had more accurate information regarding engine specs/manufacturing year/month etc. to try and determine what cars are likely to be OK.

Yes - I know what you mean. When I received my new engine, I assumed I would get a new engine number etc, but apparently VW electronically link the existing engine number with the replacement unit, so there is no change in paperwork.
As a rough rule of thumb, the problematic engines tended to be 2010/2011 models (but not all). JohnPolo's and mine were very early models which suffered greatly. By 2012 they were starting to get on top of the consumption issues with replacement pistons, Camcase breather pipe etc but even then, there have been reported cases of excessive oil usage.
Mine's a 2012 plate with the CAVE engine, pre-registered then one owner who did all the mileage (just under 9000 miles). Since I've owned it I've done just over 2500 miles mixed driving, and from my weekly checks, I'm guessing the engine has consumed around 150ml altogether which is very little in my opinion, especially for a performance petrol engine.
Yes - I think you will be ok Dave. The problem would have been very evident from the word go if there was an oil burning issue. Just keep checking it every now and again to ensure it is at the top of the hatching marks on the dipstick, but yours sounds absolutely fine.
I've got a 2012 GTI (not sure on engine code but I'll check when I have chance)
My oil consumption has been mixed really, when I first got the car last year id say it used 1litre every 600-800 miles
Since then I've had a Revo stage 1 map and I'm doing well over 1000miles before I need to top up.
Again it's varied though. I drove 300miles from Rotterdam to Nurburgring and smashed it round the ring twice and needed to top up so its all to do with the way you drive too
