New polo

Post by geoffbot »

Howdy

New to the forum, to polos, VWs, and cars, really! I'm 30 but I have got away without one for all this time. I just collected my 62 plate 1.2 tsi 1.2 105ps r line today though as I thought it was about time. I was toying with the idea of an rx8 or s2000 but the wife wanted 4 seats for when guests visit, so that quashed the latter, and there's a chance the rotary engine on the mazda will explode, which wouldn't be ideal. Test drove the 1.4 golf, but preferred this. Still might get a motorbike some day soon.

Anyway, here she is:

No kids or plans for them so 3 door is fine. We have a small dog though.

All stock of course - I don't really have any plans to modify it. I'd upgrade to a gti if I wanted more power. Anyone done that? Thoughts? I'm in Brighton so won't be going anywhere that fast really.

Just had a little blast - this thing is fun! Nippy off the line. Very pleased with my choice.

Anyone know what cable I need to connect my android (micro usb) to the MDI input? Standard USB computer cable fits but says unrecognised.

Cheers!

Welcome!
IMO 3 door with white is the best combo for a Polo.

Thanks chaps! Just commuted for the first time today - was good, especially considering the torrential rain. Does my car have a rain sensor? The manual is for all specs.

Nope. The rain sensor is a small square thing on the mirror mount, with a connection to the headlining for the wiring.

Looks like this on the 6r, the 6c is slightly different but still similar.

What's the difference between the 6r and 6c?

The 6c gained some new engines, and the remainder were updated. The 1.2 NA engines were replaced with the 1.0s, the 1.4 NA engine with a 90PS version of the 1.2 TSI, the 105PS 1.2 TSI that you have was replaced with a 110PS version. The diesels were replaced with a new 1.4 TDI unit. The BlueGT gained 10PS, and the GTI gained the 1.8 TSI (and the option of a manual gearbox).

Edit: Everything also got Bluemotion Technology, i.e. stop/start and regenerative braking, which was previously only on the BlueGT and Bluemotion, at least in the UK market.

There were also updated infotainment options, with all cars gaining a standard touchscreen with integrated Bluetooth. And of course the normal trim/option changes that you get with a facelift like new colours, some new options, and new seat coverings. Outside the 6cs have different bumpers, grills, wheels, and lights, although the changes are minimal. The BlueGT and Bluemotion don't even get the new headlamps or bumpers.

Just goes to show that VW's tagline when the 6r first came out of 'The Timeless New Polo' was pretty much bang on!

Anyone know how many extra horses a new air filter would likely give me?

Likely none. If anything, youll lost performance. Various members on here have tried and gained very little apart from noise and less economy.

A new genuine VW air filter is all you need.

Thanks. Is this to place to discuss tuning it generally?

Thanks Alex. Now that I think about it I'm probably better off just upgrading to a polo gti with slightly more miles or the clock for a grand more or so, instead of tinkering with the tsi...

Well, there are places that will do you a remap for the 1.2 TSI. A simple remap won't take it to GTI power outputs, but REVO are saying that theirs will get it up to 129-144PS. Of course there can be warranty issues with remaps, and you'd need to tell your insurers. But £399 is less cost than changing your car!
