Is it front or rear screen? If it's rear you can maybe get some black gaffer tape over for now, if its front it will depend on how it affect your view.
Personally I would stick a bit of black tape over it, do a tidy job, and carry on driving it until repair. I think you would be extremely unlucky if you got done for it.
Also if its booked in for repair, you've taken steps to get it sorted.
If it blocks your line of sight the police could act. Windscreen replacement is fairly quick now and depending on insurance might not cost that much at least it didn't damage the paintwork
Maybe one other issue, bonded glass in cars has become part of the structure of the car, ie some metal stiffness has been left off because a properly fitted and intact bonded area of glass will act to make the structure stiff and safe, now I don't know exactly how many police officers will consider this, but I'd expect a proper insurance company to understand that and to provide you with a loan car.
But I'm thinking about a "proper" world situation, unfortunately not where we are here in slash and burn UK!
