Ive had that sort of thing on my rear tyre for 3 years.. Hasnt been a problem to me..

That is just the wheel rim protector part that has been torn, I'd use a very sharp blade and tidy that up and try to get some paint to protect the damaged section of that wheel.

Thanks guys. Feel way better now. Just been quoted £30 to get the alloy fixed properly too so feeling better about the whole thing!

Spend the £30 on a Dremel and just polish it smooth? It'll only happen again at some point...

Can't look any worse! Just take the rough edges off and then polish it with Autosol.

It probably depends on the size. If you've got a big pig's ear flapping from your wheel it might be different.
At the end of the day if it doesn't feel right - it isn't right. Gut instinct is rarely wrong; If you think it needs changing then it does.

Of course, if you have not cut it off yet, and if you are handy with some rubber glue, you could stick it back down to create an "invisible mend"!
