Old Noobie

Post by ThisIsBarcode »

Hello all,

I'm Josh and from Nottinghamshire. After a spell away from VW...I am soon to be returning having ordered a new Polo GTi...which is currently in transit. :D My previous VW was '92 Polo Coupe...this is going back five years and the time felt right to return.

I presently drive an Abarth 500 which I have had for 2 years. Absolute joy every day for my short country road commute to work...the pano roof in summer and the exhaust tone make up for the poor mpg's!!! However, I'm looking forward to the arrival of my new GTi...dare I say  ...I have never driven a Polo GTi...only a MKii Golf GTi so it will be a new experience but with the pedigree of VW I don't doubt the experience will be brilliant.

My biggest worry with my new car will be the sound!?! :?: BonQuiQui (my Abarth) really roars and despite being 28 and married...I do enjoy when heads turns to see her  I'm hoping the new car snarls and pops, and if its not up to scratch, hopefully a bit of tinkering can rectify it.

Great to be on the board. I like to do the odd post on Instagram (Thisisbarcode) and yeah...as soon as I have the car I will be sure to post some pics.

Welcome Josh! And congrats on your new order

I was actually originally looking at an Abarth before the GTI but I really needed the extra space and doors so opted for the Polo in the end. I too didn't drive the GTI before placing my order (as i'm sure many others also the same) but you wont be disappointed! I will admit that the Abarth does sound louder but I have definitely turned many heads with my car, both for its looks and the sound.

What specifications did you get if you don't mind me asking?

Hey,

The Abarth is a great drive and the sound is really what sold it for me…like you say though, they lack space and after two years of ownership and 30k on the clock, I felt the time was right to change. :D

As for the GTi…I've gone 5-door, manual, pure white, parabolica wheels then an armrest and sunroof. Pretty sure thats everything. I toyed with Reflex Silver or Black…my Abarth is black though and its a nightmare to keep clean. What did you end going for?

About two weeks ago the tracker said my car was now in transit to the UK, dealership called as well to tell me. Says on average my model takes 4 weeks to arrive…however…I didn't know if that meant the Polo model or the GTi model…as I know the normal Polo's are from South Africa aren't they? I'm hoping its four weeks for normal Polo's thus mine coming from Germany would be here sooner!?! :?
