Heavy/Sticky Cluth - Squecky

Car - Mk5 1.4 16v , Sept 2001 - 51plate.

I've read a few times now that Polos are common to have problems go wrong with pedal boxes. I personally dont have a clue what exactly goes wrong - think its a weld becomes split resulting in a heavy squecky clutch ?

This is happening to my cluth, Has anyone else had this ? Reason i ask is something weird is happening, going down a downhill foot down on the cluth - coasting, the car wont pick speed up, nor decrease - willl just sit at the steady speed from when i took my foot of the accelator, if i put my foot back down on the accelator and foot of the cluth the speed increases. Ive recently had my brake pads done , front and back pads. I thought maybe the pads were rubbing a bit 2 much , or even a warped disc, so gets the trolley jack out. I jacked the car up took it out of gear and handbrake of and ALL the wheels turn fine - so it aint the pads.

Its also just had a new fuel filter and air filter. But i dont think this has anything to do with it , another thing is when in general accelarating it feels like sumit is holding the car back - not in any sence a big deal of being held back just slightly.

Reckon the pedal box has sumit to do with it as its hard to press and reallly really squecky ?

Just Curious if any one had any ideas ?

Can you get the gears ok (except reverse obviously)? It does sound like it doesn't dissengage properly, but this cannot be the case if you can get gears ok.

Something holding back the car sounds like brakes.

Either way, its not right, I would recommend you get it sorted before you get stuck or crash.

Its never had its clutched changed. And its coming up for 3 years old. done 31k miles.

I think it has to do with the cluth , as all else is fine and the pedal is so darn heavy, i just presumed a pedal box is under vw warrenty is it ??

If you still got warranty, then its a no brainer. !

I have got a 1.4 16v 6n2, my pedel box broke by the clutch pedel therefore i could not get into or out of gears. My car is a 2000 W but out of goodwill VW replaced my pedel box. At the same time my clutch and clutch cable went which set me back £450 at Slough Windrush. Now im faced with replacing my downpipe/cat because around the downpipe there is a meshed heatsheild and the pipe behind it has colapsed in. I advise u get you car inspected asap.

get it to vw its your pedal box i think oh yeah a clutch shouldent burn out at 31k my engine/ gear box in my car is 17 yrs old with 41 k on it and still on original clutch and it still feels brand new

According to VW, a woman has a manual VW rabbit or something in california and did 275,000 miles on the original clutch. She's done 1.5 million miles now, still original engine!

She obviously doesn't drive like any woman I know. [whats this stick for?]

My sister doesn't understand gears, she thinks the higher the gear the faster she goes. She can only use brakes for stopping. ...not slowing down, just stopping. She drives in top gear regardless of the road and only hits the brakes a few feet from the line, and only if its red.

She has an M reg golf and thrashes it to death right from cold. Yet it just keeps going fine.

yeh man its ur pedal box it happened to me, but before u go there mate make sure the fuckers have the parts i took mine in and it took them over a week to fix givin me s**t excuses for the delay

What exactly fails with the pedal box?

the cable comes through a rubber bush and connects to the pedal the brakets that hold the bush welds brake causing u to get a not exsistant clutch

Presumably, a replacement box will be subject to the same fault. Can it not be repaired and stiffened up?

before the recall we either replace it or rewelded it now the recall come along and vw has relised the fault they are sending out moddified pedal boxes to carry out the recalls with basicly seem weld in 3 places unlike 2 spaces i dont think you will have the problem again once the recall is carried out
