Collecting from the dealership?

Post by ThisIsBarcode »

Anyone know what the protocol is once my new GTi arrives at the dealership?

It arrived in UK Tuesday so was hoping it might be at the dealership Saturday and I'd be able to spend the whole weekend getting to know it :D Then I got thinking…whilst I have filled out the reg forms and dropped them back…whats the turn around of car once it gets to dealership? I'm guessing they have to wait for plates to arrive?

On a side note…anyone have any feedback on the stereo in the car? I'm a bit of audio snob and I'm hoping the sound is alright!?! :? I presently have the Interscope package in my Abarth with the sub under the driver seat which I can't fault.

Thanks,

I'm a stereo snob too and unfortunately the sound is rubbish. I will be getting this upgraded once I've had the car for a while as it spoils the car for me.

Ahhh not cool. I didn't remember when ordering the car, them mentioning an upgraded stereo and it only popped into my head the other day.

I'm not one to drive around with Scooter blaring out the car…I just like to hear music as it should be heard.

You got any ideas of what you might put in upgrade wise?

I do like the sound turned up a bit, but even when at normal volume the sound is best described as 'thin'. I've no idea what I'm going to add yet but I hope the head unit will allow an aftermarket amplifier quite easily. I'll also see whether I think a sub is needed too. There are no stereo upgrades available as factory fit which is really irritating as I'd have liked a Dynaudio setup. It looks as if they're trying to force you up to the Golf for that but as the Dynaudio seems to be available for the Golf and the MIB then I hope it may be possible to just hijack that setup.

There is another thread about retrofitting an upgraded stereo but I'm not ready to start taking the car apart yet.

I'd be quite interested in this, i assume when its at the dealers, you can drive it away after a bit of paper work is done. Also has any taken advantage of the free insurance, and was that aspect hassle free?

I'll be sure to let you know…I'm hoping I can drive it away. I was questioning about plates as my wife got to choose hers for her Qashqai…where as on my Reg form for tax which I took back it does already have a reg mark…so guessing plates will be on it.

I've got the years free insurance which I assume I will sign for on collection…then they just need to fill her up to the brim with the finest petrol and I will be away. :D

The free insurance requires a fairly lengthy phone call but is otherwise hassle free.

I found when I picked up my S4 a couple of years ago, that a very important meeting had to take place with the "money man" despite paying cash, very important things like "wheel protection" and a few other "no thanks" money makers for the dealer. I did use the free insurance because I was selling my old car to a work mate, the follow-up phone calls some pettered out when I said "no" to most things.

One thing to remember, while it is your order, you do not own it until the money etc has changed hands, I remember lots of years ago, going to see if my car had arrived at a Ford dealer only for me to find it on a transporter with a ding in the roof where some bad boys "down Souff" had attempted to force the door open while it was on a train - not good!! Went in to see my salesman, he said in an excited (for me) voice "it has just arrived" - my reply was not too good! Hope you have better luck, also hope wife has better luck in a couple of months - next week is "her" build week.

Josh, what was your ordering/tracking experience like?

I ordered my GTI on 29th April. Heard nothing until 6th June when I got a text to say it had left the factory and I haven't heard anything since.

I'm going on holiday on 11th July, what do you think the chances are of me getting it by then?

The VW tracker is terrible, it was for me a year ago and it seems it still is. It tends to jump from stage to stage and sometimes completely miss one out. I would phone VW UK customer service as they have the best information regarding the status, from my experience.

Is yours a 3 or 5 door?

In terms of timescale, mine was built on 6th June 2014 and I collected it 7th July 2014.. So with a bit of luck you should be ok, they estimate 4 weeks from build to delivery (3door anyway). But it depends on loads of factors, sea condition, how full the docks are, checks at Emden, checks at the UK port etc..

It said it arrived in the UK last Tuesday and then states it takes 7 days on average to go from port to dealership. I've filled out and handed back reg forms so am hoping that it will be ready tomorrow or Tuesday. It was scheduled to be ready for collection first week of July so at the minute…it might arrive slightly earlier.
