hELP! car lowered 60mm - will 16's be OK?

Post by Golfather »

The car concerned is a 1995 1.6GLX

The dilemma is this..

..60mm Spax Top Adjustables to be fitted next week, but I've not sorted the wheels yet. I've heard mixed opinions on 16" wheels on a car lowered by 60mm?

Assuming the wheels are 7x16 ....tyres are 195/45/16

1. Will I get arch contact?
2. Is there likely to be any inner arch catching
3. Is modification work necessary?

AM I WORRYING NEEDLESSLY? or is this a valid concern. :?

Time is of the essence as one way or another the car must fall by 60mm and the 13" "alloys" have to go!!!

Please advise as the current pose and skinny rims are driving me insane :x

im afriad to tell u that with 195/45/16s, they will rub.

to cure this problem you can get 195/40/16s and u can deck it!

7" width should be no problem if sensible offset is retained.

if u take the inner arch liners, they will help a tiny bit, but arch rolling will b needed..

looking at the year of your mk4 i would say yes you probably will get some arch contact, later mk4's had slightly bubbled arches, muchlike the mk5, with later marks you can drop 75mm on 16's without any scrubbing, but it all bottles down to the position of the arches

agreed
looks like you'll have to settle for 15's then with low profile tyres

:( It would appear so....

or lower by around 45mm and stick with the 16s
should have the desired effect

worse still, the wife was asking questions this morning .....
"how much is a VR6 Highline?"
she was going through some very old mags whilst tidying the garage and must have seen a few modded VRs....nightmare !
