I don't get control on where the part comes from as they order it from their suppliers.

Still not got the car back, I called twice today to check on the status, first call they said they were waiting on the clutch cable to arrive. Second call they said it had arrived and were fitting it but I couldn't make it in time to collect it before closing time. They said £65 on top of the original quote for the part and fitting.

Now have to wait til Monday to get the car back!

That's quite steep for a new clutch cable!

I know! I said to the guy on the phone that a clutch cable shouldn't cost that much and he was giving this crap asking where I looked and it including fitting etc. I will be getting it back tomorrow hopefully and unlikely to use them again.

Got car back finally earlier today, clutch is all replaced. Brakes feel funny though, like spongey? Does a clutch replacement have anything to do with the brakes? They feel a bit different since I dropped the car off at the auto centre, they road test the vehicle after the work so surely they would've spotted something was up on the test?

No, brakes are nothing to do with the clutch. It's not hydraulic so they wouldn'tve touched it.

Why do they feel different after the clutch replacement then? Could air have entered the brakes and they need bleeding? I remember when I had a service a few months back they didn't change the brake fluid and the mechanic I had change my cambelt said it looks ok.

Can't explain that one buddy. The two systems aren't linked on a cable clutch car.

Would perhaps be worth getting a brake fluid change done if it hasn't been done in the last two years anyway

I've only had the car 6 months and the previous owner isn't in contact with the guy before him.

How easy is a brake fluid change? And do new clutches need a "breaking in" (excuse the pun) period?

Easy enough. Easiest with a pressure bleeder

Your local vw specialist should charge no more than around £40 - for that price it's better to let someone else do it lol

Go easy on the clutch for 500 miles just to let the friction plate bed in much like brake pads.

Hmm, that's if it needs doing, I may be over-thinking it. Just trying to identify what the issue could be.

Planning to take it on the motorway in a few days, I'm hoping the brakes won't be dodgy at 70mph!
