Not sure if this is because of the DTUK tuning box I have fitted, but my BGT often seems to 'hunt' between 2- and 4-cylinder mode, particularly when on the motorway at about 80mph/130kph. It's a bit like when old automatic gearboxes couldn't decide which gear to be in and hunted between two.
Anyone else have this?

I know exactly what you mean. Circa 80 seems to be the transition speed on a flat motorway, steady throttle and no head wind. The only way I am made aware is the via the dashboard indicator there does not seem to be any difference in engine note or smoothness. I have DSG but have no idea if that makes any difference. As the only difference resting cylinders makes is in mpg I just live with it although a bit more or less throttle returns a stable engine state.
My early cars had starting handles and you had to manually adjust mixture and advance retard. The latest breed of hi tech cars are so clever you wonder if they really need you in the driving seat.

Reassuring, in a way. I thought it might be my DTUK box. TBH, I do wish there was a dash-mounted switch to temporarily deactivate the COD feature, as it can be annoying. Sometimes you really feel a shunt as it kicks in & out.

I've tried hard to detect any change in engine note/feeling when the cylinders put their feet up but can detect no difference, certainly no shunt, perhaps it is the box. On previous cars I've had remaps or a tuning box and there is a compromise in someway or another.
It's interesting to share experience, I have experienced cylinder cut out in various vehicles, mostly khaki and diesel powered, you really knew about it in them so I was a bit apprehensive about the BGT but so far it has impressed me greatly.

Over the first 10,000 miles in my Blue GT I have never noticed the engine switching between 2 and 4 cylinders, other than the notification in the instrument cluster.

Same for me. Never been able to tell.
