The "rim protector" does not protect your rim from getting scratched on the curb... That would be like trying to use an elastic band as a crash helmet.
It protects from smal stones you runs over and helps push most of them away from the rims.

My local VW will repair any damaged alloy for £25 an alloy. So some of them will do repairs yes.
