So how's your driving record?

Post by Speedlaw »

To start: This is not a thread to show off how many violations you've racked up. Rather, it's me getting slightly worried... I saw a similar thread on the 'Tex btw.

Here's the thing, I got yet another ticket today. It's about one every three or four months now. I consider myself a careful and responsible driver, yet I can't seem to have a clear record.

So far, I've gotten at least 8 speeding tickets, perhaps more, one red light booboo, and two parking tickets- including me parking in a handicapped zone. And I swear I didn't know I was in their space!

No accidents when I was driving though, so I guess that's a good thing. I've been driving for a while now, but the number of tickets seem to increase as my experience increases too.

So what's your record, and how long have you been driving? And can someone explain that points-system to me? Confusing...

:D

I've just turned 24 and been driving since I was 17. Been stopped for speeding 3 times but have only been charged twice. 6 points on my licence.

The points system here... when you commit an offence you get points on your licence, between 3 - 11 depending on the offence. If rack up 12 or more in 3 years you can be disqualified.

Ponts dissapear from the licence 4 years after the offence unless it's related to drink driving or causing death, then it's on there for 11 years.

Speeding usually gives you 3-6 points depending on how fast/dangerous you were driving.

If you've just passed your test these day's I think the disqualification level is at 6 points and that's for the first year, or two years. Not sure...

I think that's right. It's quite complicated.
There may be a website somewhere...

How does it work there?

James.

Oh right, that explains it then. The Germans have the point system too, but we aren't there yet. The punative system is a bit of joke here, speeding just costs money. If you're speeding really bad, you could end up losing your license, for the shocking term of 4 days. After which you can pick it up at the police station again. Wow. Impressive.

Over 50 km/h too fast means losing your license, which as stated means nothing, and will cost up to 1000€. That's basically all.

A mate of mine got done for driving down the buslane without his seatbelt on whilst on the phone. The cops actually saw the funny side and gave him a warning.
