Re: Mapping / Chip
If you are meaning the 85PS 1.4 16V engine, then not much, if anything available I'd suspect, lack of demand and lack of potentially useful gains will be the reason.
Re: Mapping / Chip
Why is there so ? . Its really stupid how all other engines can get the chips but not mine. Whats so wrong with the 1.4 85ps 16v engine !! ?.RUM4MO wrote:If you are meaning the 85PS 1.4 16V engine, then not much, if anything available I'd suspect, lack of demand and lack of potentially useful gains will be the reason.

Re: Mapping / Chip
No turbo or supercharger. Gains on a small displacement low output naturally aspirated engine are minimal
Re: Mapping / Chip
So is there anything i can do to boost up the hp in the engine ? .alexperkins wrote:No turbo or supercharger. Gains on a small displacement low output naturally aspirated engine are minimal

Re: Mapping / Chip
Just enjoy what you have, which is probably better long term reliability than the more modern engines!haflidi3 wrote:So is there anything i can do to boost up the hp in the engine ? .alexperkins wrote:No turbo or supercharger. Re: Mapping / Chip
Oh well i guess you are right. Just so strange no one here has a 1.4 L petrol version i think ive only seen people here with 1.0 - 1.2 and 1.8 L engines.RUM4MO wrote:Just enjoy what you have, which is probably better long term reliability than the more modern engines!haflidi3 wrote:So is there anything i can do to boost up the hp in the engine ? .alexperkins wrote:No turbo or supercharger. Re: Mapping / Chip
I've got the old 9n3 1.4SE 80 BHP version. It's not designed to go quickly but it designed to last for a while. I think the lack of turbo and superchargers is actually useful for a small runabout as it should keep it cheaper to run.
Re: Mapping / Chip
I didnt know that when i bought it. Im gonna be honest when i bought it and the guy said it had the biggest engine in it besides the GTI i thought like oh it must have the most HP then. Know that i know its not it makes me want to change to another car. But do you think there is anything at all that can boost up the hp ?. And would it be possible to put a turbo in it ?. And you know or have you seen anyone do it to a 1.4 L Polo ?.Penarth Blues wrote:I've got the old 9n3 1.4SE 80 BHP version. It's not designed to go quickly but it designed to last for a while. Re: Mapping / Chip
I see no point in putting a turbo on it - it'll always be cheaper just to buy a car on which this is part of the original design. That way everything else is also designed to work with the turbo - including the brakes, rigidity of the chassis, etc.haflidi3 wrote:I didnt know that when i bought it. If you want something to go fast then you're not starting in the right place...

Yes i totally see your point, but could you maybe tell me where to start to gain a bit of hp ?.Penarth Blues wrote:I see no point in putting a turbo on it - it'll always be cheaper just to buy a car on which this is part of the original design. Re: Mapping / Chip
Without forced induction it's almost impossible to find any noticible increase in bhp. Virtually all methods rely on increasing the amount of charge air which you don't have.
If you want more power you need a different car.

Re: Mapping / Chip
Spend money on looks, like lowering, alloys etc. will spend hundreds if not more for like a gain of 5bhp at most without serious/ extreme mods
Re: Mapping / Chip
I lowered my car with H&R springs 35mm at front and 55mm at the back. The next thing would probably be to get some better dampers and then alloys. Im really wanting to look different from all the other Polos.Mayhem wrote:Spend money on looks, like lowering, alloys etc. will spend hundreds if not more for like a gain of 5bhp at most without serious/ extreme mods
I dont want to look like everyone else.

Re: Mapping / Chip
That makes a lot of sense, it's good to stand out in a crowd and it makes it easier for the bloke you accidentally cut up yesterday to recognize your car in order to key it, the police will love you too as they will be able to pick you out easily and reward you with a nice ticket.
You can squeeze a fair bit of extra power out of a naturally aspirated engine with a proper remap. It will be expensive and there will be compromises typically engine life, economy, drivability, hot starting, altitude or temperature sensitivity etc, your insurance company will probably screw you too unless you have many many years ncb or are about to draw your pension.
The advice you have been given about trading up is sound.
