Are VW doing a Polo R or not?

Haven't heard any news on this for a few months.

What's the latest? Has the whole idea been shelved, or are VW going ahead?

The reason I want to know is because I drove the Audi S1 before ordering my BGT and it was bloody fantastic

I asked this question when I was about to order the SEL for my wife, I suggested that what was currently on offer was just an "R series" just like Audi's "S series" - the answer I got was that the next "R" was not going to be an R style but a bit more than that and it was being launched in time for the 2016MY build program, so far I've not seen anything to suggest that any of that was true!

I soooo hope they do build it - 4WD and 250-ish HP I only drove the S1 for a couple of miles, but it was one of the nicest cars I've ever driven... and I've driven a lot, including 550hp Jags.

First it was on then it was off. I read vw had decided against it as they felt it wouldn't be a sales hit due to price and problems knowing where to price it. Also it would be biting at the heels of the Golf GTI too much.

The idea has been shelved according to magazines interviewing VW bosses. Think VW would be treading on its own tale more so than at the minute if it happened.
