I think detailing is one of those areas where everyone will have their own favourite products. I do like Autoglym products myself they have been around for years and are tried and tested.
For just a basic wash and a spruce op I'd go go
Bilt Hamber Autowash to clean the car, it's very concentrated so a tiny amount does the job. Also means it lasts ages. It sheets away quite well so minimises water marks.

I'd follow that with a good quality clay bar. Again Bilt Hamber clay bars are very good. They come in soft, medium and regular, they have the edge for me as they only need water as a lubricant.

Following that I'd go Autoglym Super resin polish and top it off with their extra gloss protection. Think they are on a 3 for 2 at Halfords at the moment.
If you want a quick detailer I'd go Sonax Brilliant Shine. It beads like crazy and outlasts quite a few waxes durability wise.
I'm sure others will have experience with other products, but all those are pretty cheap and will get you going. It's worth geeting a wash mitt and a couple of drying towels too.
