Adding Parking Camera to new GTI?

Post by Penarth Blues »

Annoyingly I placed my order for my GTI just before they added the Parking Camera into the Park Package as a £25 extra and they could not change it despite my car not having been started yet...

What I'd like to know is how difficult it would be to add this in as a retrofit? Is everything there to just add the camera in or is there additional wiring needed?

I had the reverse (if that's the right word) experience. Two or three days after I'd placed my order the new Parking Pack was introduced. I'd ordered the Cruise & Park Pack but not the seperate Reversing Camera.

So I contacted my dealer straight away and they confirmed it was a brand new option which didn't exist at the time of my order. They said they would upgrade me to the Parking Pack for an extra £25 (£425 for the Parking Pack minus £400 for the Cruise & Park Pack). At that moment in time they couldn't actually order the Parking Pack and they were concerned my car might get too far down the build process to have a Rear Camera fitted. So they amended my order to include the Camera as an individual option on top of the Cruise and Park pack. They assured me they would sort out the paperwork properly at a later date but in the meantime they guaranteed that under no circumstances would I have to pay anything other than £25 more.

And that was indeed the happy outcome.

So it might be worth pushing your dealership if your car has not been built yet.

Unfortunately mine had been ordered for a good month or so when the upgraded that pack. I did enquire right away but my dealer told me they could do nothing as everything was now 'set' even though my car had not even started being built at that time. I'm hoping this won't be a big deal to retrofit but it probably will be. Is it worth it? Do you use the rear camera when reversing?

Retrofit isn't an easy task plus it'll cost around £200 to do as you'll need the camera and all the retrofit looms

The best way without cutting the rear bumper (the best way anyway ...)

An image of it installed in a 6C (for specific details it is best that you get in touch with wvpolo6c)

Yes, I find it works very well and compliments the rear parking sensors. The coloured green and red lines are useful - the red one is particularly good for backing into a tight parking space as you can go very close to the car behind, then straighten the front wheels and move forwards to sit midway in the space.

Definitely better than I expected and my commiserations that you couldn't get your order changed.

I ordered the folding mirrors on their own and in retrospect I wish I'd had them as part of the pack with the auto lighting etc. Oh well.

Cheers Ciclo - very useful to see a price (which definitely rules it out :D ) I'll just have to make do with the parking sensors and my eyes 8)
