I try and do some research and find the recent track of the Vessels. It's a guess but you visit AIS, which is a Ship Tracking website. Browse which vessels do the same route which is Spain and then back to the uk. According to VW, they use Sheerness, Grimsby and Tyne to import vehicles into the uk.

What's unclear is if the cars go to Germany first and then onto the UK. If so, there are Vehicle carriers that go from Emden to the uk as well.

I'm on the Lifeboat Crew so i just quite like ship spotting and guessing and looking at patterns and where they go!

Bit of a nerd of a thing to do but keeps me entertained! Yes mate, still waiting but it was ahead of schedule - it was built a week before it was scheduled to do so.....so hopefully it will be arriving in the uk soon. You getting restless as well?

boj27 wrote:Pretty much decided on what I want with my new GTI. There are a few options left I have let to decide on. I am not sure whether I want to go for factory sat nav (discover nav) right from the factory as the option to have it fitted later here in the UK by the dealers is an option (kenwood/garmin) Oem nav. Anyone had this done or does anyone know what the different between the 2 is? I know that the factory option is £100 more expensive.

I am also not sure whether to spec the voice controls for nav and telephone. I assume the car already has a microphone somewhere as the car has Bluetooth as standard, I believe if the previous 6r has Bluetooth from factory it was just a simple coding change to enable voice controls, is this true for the 6c does anyone know? My other concern is if I don't go for factory nav and then spec voice controls and go for the dealer fitted nav option at a later date, is the voice control going to integrate with the kenwood system?

Finally I am unsure whether to spec the electronic climate control. Paying £380 to have the air kept at a constant temperature seems a lot to me considering it is only single zone climate control at that from what I have read? I'm sure it looks nicer within the cabin but is that worth £380?

I also notice that the GTI does not come with adaptive cruise control or city emergency braking, is that true? It seems the blueGT does and it seems weird that the GTI wouldn't.

I am also wondering whether to spec the sports performance pack. can someone give me advise on the aspects of this?

Sorry for all the questions!
Hi, my personal feelings is that climate control is not needed, I can turn a knob to alter the temp thx very much. As for sport button, now I have the car I don't think I'll used it much around town, but tried in on some country twisties and was good , ride firmer yes but still not in ST territory. Also think the normal setting wen not using the sport mode is slightly softer than the standard car without the option, so a bit more forgiving on the pot holed streets we have.

You'll be an all Polo familly then! If you don't get a text /email tonight or tomorrow morning it's probably not come off the ship in Grimsby , there's always the Port of Tyne in the North so they might be coming off there in the next couple of days. If not, ill find the next potential ship that they could be on!

Norfolk Boy wrote:Boj27, first of all I think you are making a great choice. Obviously whatever spec you choose is your personal choice. For me climate control is a waste of money if you can have air con. I have had climate on a previous car and yes it does look good but I don't think it really makes a difference to warrant the extra cost. On the sport button I've yet to hear from anyone who has tried a standard car vs one with the sport button. I don't have it and I'm not convinced it's worth it from what I've read especially if you have the manual. Fake exhaust noise in the cabin and a bouncy ride on anything other than a perfectly flat surface - yuk! If I'd wanted that kind of ride I would have bought a Fiesta ST! Seriously though there may be others who would recommend the sport button and may want to let you know what they think. On the media pack I don't have any views as I'm a technophobe.
Agree with all of this. I waited ages for my dealer to get a demo car in and the one that arrived had the Sport button. Didn't like the ride and the fake exhaust noise is a bit Fisher Price in my opinion. Have since driven a non-Sport equipped car and I'm pleased I decided not to bother.
I didn't even consider Sat-Nav, I must admit. Have never needed it before now so couldn't justify the cost. Similarly, climate control as a near-£400 option is a nonsense!

To my knowledge the 'sport performance kit' option in the GOLF GTI is a remap which adds an extra 10BHP and some other tweaked stuff, which is a completely different option to the 'sport select suspension' which is an available option for the POLO GTI... AFAIK the sport performance kit option isn't available on the POLO GTI yet........

Fake engine noise in cabin with the sport button I agree. The exhaust note with sport button pressed and hard acceleration is lovely. This would mainly only be heard from the outside obviously or with windows down.

Anyone else getting a bit of a squeak (or another very high pitched noise) when gently breaking or rolling in low gears whilst in traffic? Obviously assuming it's due to how new everything is but would have hoped 300 miles would have sorted it out...

Yes, mine's in at VW today, having them look at a few niggles (including one major one regarding the non-UK spec 'Sport Select suspension' (see earlier post)

I was driving around Sheffield centre last night, trying to find parking, and between each set of lights I was getting that high pitched squeal common from binding disc/stuck calliper. It was pulsing, so it indicated an out-of-centre disc. I remember an earlier post where somehow had to have a warped disc replaced when only a few days old.

I've also had a weird squeaking from under the steering column, generally early on a damp morning, before things have warmed up.

I've had the stop/start fail to restart at rush hour traffic lights (very embarrassing!) and twice the engine seems to have stalled when parking (maybe I just caught the clutch wrong, but it seemed to stall a bit too easily)

The main issue it has gone in for though was the CMS losing sound when switching media sources, and no volume on incoming calls. Ironically, I disabled Bluetooth streaming on the unit about 3 days ago, and it has been faultless since then.

Since I am taking all these issues to the local dealer where I didn't buy the car, I felt obliged to give them some business. I'm having them install the Kenwood/Garmin Satnav module, so will report on the performance of that in due course.

Due to collect at 5.00pm and see what they say - the non-UK spec Sports button is really quite bizarre.

Update having collected the car......

As sadly expected little joy.

No fault found with stop/start or the squeaky brakes.

They admit that "VW are aware with a number of issues with the CMS that some owners are facing. They are working on a fix"

They just shrug their shoulders again regarding the sports button and 'Sport Select suspension', suggesting I really need to take it up with the supplying dealer.

The Kenwood/Garmin seems ok on first impressions however the TMC is just saying 'poor signal'. I forgot to ask about Speed Camera POI's, and they have fitted the unit above the glove box, so it looks like I'll have to do some DIY dismantle if I want to add camera locations. The audio integration has a touch of 'aftermarket feel' about it. The way it defeats radio volume and the spoken instruction come out of the right front speaker reminds me of the cheap Chinese double din head units. A bit clunky, but then again it's far better than a stand alone satnav.
