Engine transplants ?
Engine transplants ?
Does anyone know of or have any info on putting either the 2.3 v5 or vr6 motors into a polo 6r ? It's just a thought buzzing around the back of my mind that's all, last engine swap I did was a mk1 golf with a 2.0 16v motor and that was 15 yrs ago, I would imagine it's a bit more involved with a newer polo ? Anyone ?

Re: Engine transplants ?
I met a guy at Wörthersee this year. He had a Mk 4 Golf R32 which he had taken the VR6 engine out of and instead fitted a 1,8 16V from a Mk 2 Golf GTI in it.Lizard Racing wrote:Why?
When my friends and I asked him why he would do such a thing, he just asked us back; "Have you ever seen it done before?" We answered "no" to which he simpy replied; "That's why!"

Re: Engine transplants ?
Why put a heavy, 20+ year old, 5 speed (6 speed even heavier!), inefficient engine into a 5 year old Polo you mean? Complete step backwards in my opinion. What's wrong with the engine you've got?

Nothing wrong with the engine that's in, just fancy a change and I don't like turbo'sLizard Racing wrote:Why put a heavy, 20+ year old, 5 speed (6 speed even heavier!), inefficient engine into a 5 year old Polo you mean? Re: Engine transplants ?
Anything is possible, V8 2CV, twin engined Mini etc but If you really must transplant you will find it much easier if you stick to a transverse engine which rules out LS1, Scoobydoo etc. It was so much easier before engines were ruled by sophisticated electronics but if you are up to it go for it but expect to end up with a car far more compromised than you started out with.
Re: Engine transplants ?
Yeah I was definitely keeping it transverse ! if the golf 20v turbo motor has been transplanted enough times then maybe that's the route I will have to take instead, the 2.3 v5 may still be a viable swap though, anyone got info on the turbo motor transplants ?
