Adjusting rear coilover suspension

Post by crabbygash »

Hi All,

Needing some help searched everywhere on how to do this as its really bugging me.

I have FK Street Coilovers on my 2013 Polo. The front sit perfect but the rears arch gap is too big for my liking. But only problem is they are about halfway up the perch rails(for lack of a better term) and they will not go lower, I've tried umpteen times to sort this but the height wont budge. even if they go up or down. Any tips on how to get them lower? and how to do it. I have been told to take adjusters out and take helpers out but in all honesty I don't feel comfortable doing these with so little info about how and why to do it on the internet. No picture or video tutorials ANYWHERE! So any help will be much appreciated on this matter.

When i had them fitted by my mechanic neighbour he said he didn't want to put them too low as it wouldn't make it down his garage ramp without damaging some paint/bodywork. It sounds silly but his ramp to his garage workshop is a solid 50 degree hill and mine was millimetres from scraping.

I would include a picture but I'm not sure on how to as i've never posted on a forum before.

Thanks in Advance,
Jack :D

Hey, funny enough, I can't even take the rear springs out, I've done the front but Im no mechanic, and the rear is really irritating me.. i was supporting the whole arm with a jack, so even when i dropped the jack, the spring wouldn't pop out.. i don't know what to do, my only hope is a spring compressor or just try to yank it out with a rubber hammer haha. Either way, when i do that, i think I'm gonna have a same problem as you, the aftermarket spring and shock are shorter but is it gonna be enough to have proper fitment? id like to have max 20mm gap at the back.

To get it lower you need to remove the adjuster nut below the rear spring so only the part with the tread is installed.
